…to get His Bride!

I attended a beautiful wedding on Saturday.  The groom and bride were perfectly matched and the wedding was beautiful in every way!  It was a Christian wedding.  This couple understood the covenant relationship they were entering into.  Not only were they united to one another in holy matrimony but they were each united with Christ in a covenant relationship.  Marriage is so symbolic and sacred!

Over the years, I’ve been to a lot of weddings.  Most every time my focus has been on the bride, watching her come down the aisle.  But this wedding was different.  O indeed, I too eagerly waited for the bride to make her way down the aisle, but I also watched more closely the groom.  And as I did, I caught glimpses of how the Lord sees His Bride, the Church.

As John waited for Sarah to come through the doors, he was full of joy and anticipation of being united with her.  He was radiant!  Sarah was who he was waiting for!  It wasn’t the 500 family members and friends who were capturing his attention; it was Sarah.  He longed for Sarah.  And then she came through the doors and we all stood to our feet.  I looked again at John and he was beyond elated.  His love for her so pure—he was overcome with joy.

I think that is just a little hint of how the Lord loves His Bride and longs to be united with her.  He loves His Church.  “And the gates of hell will not prevail against her.”  When the fullness of time comes, He will return for her and take her home to be with Him forever in His Kingdom.  Keep your eyes fixed on the Groom!  He’s coming again…
